nt updated in a while~ I know, I've been kinda busy with school since it's the first week but I should be back to writing all this BS now that I've got the swing of things.
So first off, quick update on what I've been doing...
Obviously I've been going to school, doing that whole learning thing and what not, it's kind of nice getting up everyday to go do something but at the same time there are days I just want to be lazy as all get out. Usually after school I go with Adrian somewhere and we study and practice talking and all that shenanigans and it's nice cause he's really cool and he's my total "big brother" here. Other then school, I did my grocery shopping, which I forgot some things so I have to go back, so my little fridge is getting nice a full~. I nearly got attacked by a bug last night doing my laundry, I ran inside and locked the door so fast it was like lightening...uuuuhhh....I cleaned? a little? Yeah kind of and I'm offically unpacked which is realllllly nice.
So now that thats done! I want to talk about what I did this morning...
And by this morning I mean at 3 am.
So every year there is a festival call Hakata Yamakasa that obviously takes place in Hakata. The tradition streaches back to som 750 years ago in like 1241 when a Buddhist preist named Shouich Kokushi was carried through the town of Hakata on a platform and sprinkled with holy water to eradicate the evil spirits responsible for a plague that had struck the town. So from July 1st to the 15th this Festival takes place and at 4:59 AM on July 15 is the climax of the entire thing, also known as Oiyama. Basically what happens is a whole bunch of guys get together and make like a "float" or Kakiyama and Kazariyama, that they then have someone sit on as they carry it in a race to see who can make it to the finish line in the best time. They all wear an outfit called mizu happi or "short coats" and pretty much run like mad men while they carry this float down the street with the men on top screaming out chants for them to keep going and other men throwing buckets of water on them to keep them cool.
Needless to say it was amazing to see.
There's all these floats being held up by men, and then hundreds of other men standing around to also run and help out. Their all wearing the mizu happi which is basically a T-shit and little cloth thong paired with little black boots, so I can say I've seen a mad amount of ass and not all of is was pleasent, though it was still kind of funny. There's so many people there that its crazy trying to squish your way through it all, and theres so many food stalls that you just want to eat everything. Not to mention everyone is tired and seriously drunk since drinking is a huge part of it and drunks were everywhere just having a grand old time, even the men carrying the floats tend to drink before hand, there were huge bottles of sake everywhere.
So I woke up at 3, caught the train and met up with Adrian, grabbed some alcohol and walked down the streets just enjoying the festival for all it is...madness. At 6 it finally rounded up with the biggest float hauling ass down the road while it blew mist from the dragons nose and people chanted like no bodies buisness. It was all so fantastic that I'm glad that even though I hadnt slept I had gone to see the festival itself. Eventually I got back at 7:30, took a nap till 10 went and took my test that I had for school and succeded in staying in class without passing out from just how tired I am. Now Im back in my dorm all nice and cool, about to watch the rest of my movie and relax before going to bed whenever I feel like it. Ah~
For the record I am going to post pictures when my computer isnt being stupid with the company of my internet
